Thousands of Iranian women were allowed into the stadium in Tehran to watch their first ever football match in decades.
The 1979 Islamic revolution came with a ban on Iranian women from watching football in stadiums when men are playing.
The new development came as a result of a fan who set herself ablaze when she was arrested for trying to enter a stadium.
More than 3500 tickets were bought by Iranian women who were allowed into the 78,000 capacity Azadi Stadium and made to stay at a special stand.
The tickets were sold out in minutes.
Clips showed the Iranian women cheering their team on by waving their country flag.
