The FIFA Best Awards has been hit with a rigging controversy as football associations and captains claim they didn’t vote for the Lionel Messi.
The award for FIFA Men’s Best player was won by Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo and Virgil Van Dijk.
Throwing Messi’s victory into doubt is a complaint on misallocated and uncounted votes coming from the Egyptian Football Association, Sudan’s coach Zdravko Logarusic and Nicaragua’s captain, Juan Barrera.
Egypt’s association have complained to FIFA about votes from its national coach Shawki Ghareeb and captain Ahmed, not being counted.
Despite being sent in on August 15, the votes from Ghareeb and El-Mohammadi were not in FIFA’s publication of official votes.
The Egypt association have also opened an investigation into why their votes were not counted in the process leading to Messi’s win.
Sudan’s coach Lugarisic and Nicaragua’s Juan Barrera stated that FIFA published the wrong names as people they voted for.
According to Lugarisic, FIFA published Messi as his first choice when it’s Salah he chose.
Barrera also denied voting for Messi as claimed by FIFA.
