Video appears to show moment Ukraine plane hit over Iran
A video which has gone viral online puportedly showed moment the Ukrainian airliner which crashed not too far from Iran’s airport in Tehran shortly after takeoff on Wednesday January 8, was hit by a missile.
The videoappears to back statements of Canadian, US and UK officials, who said intelligence indicated that an Iranian missile brought down the airliner, a conclusion which has been repeatedly dismissed by Iran.
New York Times and CNN said the video was sent in by internet-freedom researcher Nariman Gharib, who said he obtained it from another individual. Though the autenticity of the video has not been confirmed, it however had buildings which are similar to ones in Iranian capitol suburb of Parand.
This is coming after US and Pentagon officials disclosed that Iran mistakenly shot down the airliner, a working theory based on continuing analysis of data from satellites, radar and electronic data collected routinely by US military and intelligence.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, also announced that his country’s intelligence service also came to same conclusion of the airplane being shot down by Iran.
“There is now a body of information that the flight was shot down by an Iranian Surface to Air Missile. This may well have been unintentional. We are working closely with Canada and our international partners and there now needs to be a full, transparent investigation.
“The UK continues to call on all sides urgently to deescalate to reduce tensions in the region.”
Iranian state TV reported that the government spokesman Ali Rabiei alleged that the claims are psychological warfare against Iran.
“All these reports are a psychological warfare against Iran … all those countries whose citizens were aboard the plane can send representatives and we urge Boeing to send its representative to join the process of investigating the black box.”
