UPDATED: Fire guts INEC Headquarters
The Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) razed by fire in Abuja on Friday.
According to sources, the affected section in the building, the Election and Party Monitoring Department (EPM), completely burnt down by the fire which started around 11 am
However, Mr. Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman Voters’ Education and Information,
mentioned that no important documents lost in the inferno except for photocopying machines and computers.
Also, he revealed that some documents relating to political parties burnt but the important ones kept in fireproof cabinets.
Furthermore, according to him:
“the fire started around 11 am, it was at the Media Centre outside the INEC Headquarters,
the Headquarters is intact, there is no cause for alarm.
The main documents relating to our monitoring of political parties are still intact,
they have moved out before the fire.
What you have here are just correspondences.
But we have lost public properties and our working equipment We are still trying to find out what happened”.
Also, Controller Braimoh Mommoh, the person in charge of Federal Fire Service, Abuja Command, said they called him about a fire at the INEC Headquarters.

Furthermore, he mentioned that there’s little damage due to the efforts of the firemen present, if not the whole building would burn down.
Also, Mommoh said investigations to see what caused the fire ongoing presently.
Furthermore, just of recent, Treasury House in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation
and the Headquarters of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) burnt under controversial circumstances.
