A PhD holder who was rescued from an Islamic Rehabilitation Centre in Kaduna has stated that he was put there because his family thought he had become a Christian.
Dr Hassan Yusuf, with a PhD in Energy Economics, revealed that his family took the decision when he returned from London to visit them.
According to him, they thought he had become Christian and were worried he was trying to convert his children too.
“They say I became a Christian. Because I spent sixteen years in the UK, I married there. So, I go back to Nigeria to come and settle my family, and the extended family came and told these people (the Islamic rehabilitation centre) that I became a Christian and I was trying to convert my children to Christians.
“I just found myself here one night – one morning – about two years ago.”
Yusuf added that the rehabilitation centre starved, tortured and fed them mostly carbohydrates which affected his diabetes.
