Honey is a Hebrew word that means ‘enchant’. Little wonder honey is sweet and loved by almost everyone. It is also an endearing word people call their spouses, kids, friends and loved ones. While honey adds sweetness to foods and nourishments to our bodies, it is also a natural ingredient with benefits that transcends ingestion. This ingredient has been known to be good in our skin care regimen and daily routine.
Honey can be pure and natural or refined (The type you find in super stores). When incorporating it in your skin care routine ensure it is pure and natural. These ones are thick, dark and still possess all the nutrients to perform wonders on your skin and hair.
FIGHTS ACNE AND FADES THE SCARS
Honey is a cleansing agent that absorbs skin impurities. It soothes and heals your skin. Since Honey is a natural moisturizer, it also aids the treatment of scars. Apply on affected area, leave it for a few minutes and rinse off with warm water.
HELP TREAT WRINKLES
Honey possess antioxidants that delays aging. It leaves our skin looking young and wrinkle free. Honey moisturizes the top layer of our skin and the extra moisture help improve wrinkles. It soothes dry, irritated and sensitive areas on our skin.
SOFTEN CRACKED LIPS
This a common problem during the harmattan season. Our lips get dry, chapped and uncomfortable. Although this isn’t the harmattan season, some people however, suffer from dry, chapped lips. Honey can work wonders for your cracked lips. Applying a little amount of honey on your lips and leaving it overnight will leave the lips smooth and supple with daily application. We know honey is sweet, so avoid the temptation of licking the honey off your lips for desired results.
TREATS DRY SKIN
One of the greatest benefits of honey is moisture and that’s what dry and flaky skin needs for a soothing relief. The antibacterial properties in honey deeply cleanse the skin and improves its moisture levels. Spread honey on your skin and leave in for few minutes, then rinse off with warm water. Do this two to three times a week.
CLEANSES THE SKIN
Honey help remove dirt and grime from the skin, without stripping the natural oils. It exfoliates the skin and rids it of dead cells. Try natural ingredients like honey, to retain skin properties.
Honey helps brighten the skin in numerous ways. Its anti-bacterial properties soothe inflammation and defend the skin from germs. Dirt on the skin leave the pores clogged, that may lead to acne and other skin impurities. These skin impurities can leave the skin dull and dark. The use of honey as an exfoliant will unclog these pores, rid the skin of impurities and brighten the skin, giving it that glow we all love and want.
STRENGTHENs DAMAGED HAIR AND PROMOTES GROWTH
This is a personal favourite in my hair care routine. If your hair breaks and doesn’t grow properly, honey is the solution. Honey strengthens damaged hair and promotes hair growth. Mix honey with other natural ingredients, like egg whites and avocado and apply mixture on your hair. Cover it with a shower cap and leave for a few hours then rinse off with warm water.
We all dread the constant itch caused by dandruff and will love a lasting solution. To help control this, mix honey with water and apply the solution in your scalp. Leave it on for a few hours and then rinse off with warm water.
One important thing you must note is consistency. While you may see changes immediately, for greater results you have to use this over a period of time.
