On Sunday, an Aeroflot passenger plane took off from Moscow heading to Anapa — a Russian town located on the northern coast of the Black Sea. While mid-flight, the co-pilot became sick and that’s where things took a turn for the worse.
Sources say that just before 10 a.m., the co-pilot shared with the pilot that he was not feeling good and asked him to make an emergency landing at Platov International Airport in Rostov-on-Don.
When the plane landed, authorities were on the scene to give the 49-year-old pilot medical attention. Sadly, on the way to the hospital, the co-pilot died.
As of now, according to TASS, the pilot’s cause of death was ruled a heart attack. During the incident, none of the other people on the plain was injured.
In a statement to CNN, the Russian airline company said: “Everyone at Aeroflot is deeply saddened by our colleague’s death, and we extend our sincere condolences to his friends and loved ones.”
An Aeroflot spokesperson also released a statement sharing that the pilot had a “clean medical history” passing an examination and medical tests just one day before the tragic incident.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to this pilot and his family during this hard time!
