The Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Rtr. Col. Hameed Ali have reiterated the fact that Nigerian Borders will be closed until neighbouring countries agree on existing ECOWAS protocols.
Ali also talks to newsmen about the consequences of closing the borders ,
He said that by closing the borders, Nigeria was able to completely block the importation of contraband.
“We are able to completely block the influxes of illicit goods, and most importantly, stopped the exportation of petroleum product which is the biggest problem we have,” Ali said.
Hammed Ali says there is no specific time when the borders might be opened until these neighbouring countries agree on the existing laws. Nigeria closing the borders has helped helped boost the economy to a larger extent.
The border has successfully blocked the movement of illicit goods into the country, illegal exportation of crude oil, importation of rice and many others.
Many of these goods are being produced here in Nigeria but are not being patronized. People who prefer to patronize goods made overseas are not helping the country growth.
Hammed Ali also condemns Custom officials who pave way for this contrabands to get into the country.
He warns that such officer will have himself to hate as there would be zero tolerance towards such act.
