Nigeria Customs prevents 34 containers of rice from entering into Lagos seaport
It has been disclosed by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Hameed Ali (Rtd) that a container of rice was smuggled into the country with the guise of bringing in spare parts.
He further disclosed that 34 containers of rice have been held and 11 containers of unregistered pharmaceutical products, a container of used clothes, 4 containers of refined vegetable oil, 2 containers of used tyres and many more.
According to Punch.ng the total amount of duty paid on the value of seized goods was pegged at N2.7bn.
Hameed Ali also talked about the closure of the land borders which have made the importers of banned items to get their items through the seaport.
He said he has received numerous backlash due to the border closure but the closure is doing more good than harm.
