JUST IN: IGP Tells Policemen To Attack Back
The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has given all personnel of the force a go-ahead to attack back on any confrontation while discharging their official duty.
The police boss stated this on Friday, October 30 during an assessment tour of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Abuja, Naija News reports.
According to him, the police personnel also have the right to defend themselves in case of physical danger.
According to the IGP, while speaking a few moments ago, the #EndSARS protest was staged to demoralise the force,
adding that the Nigerian government and Police Force would soon roll out packages for the families of the deceased officers.
“So, no amount of provocation and insult will make us shy away from our responsibilities.
“In as much as we are aware that the government is behind us, we will encourage
you to continue to be professional and civic in performing your duties.
“But if anybody touches or assault you, you can also protect yourself because
when we talk of human rights, the police are human, so the rights of police officers should also be protected.
“We are sending the message that legally, we have the right to protect ourselves.”
