“I Joined Warrington To Win Trophies” – Gareth Widdop
Gareth Widdop hopes his half-back partnership with Blake Austin will inspire Warrington to their first ever Super League title.
The 30-year-old will play in Super League for the first time in his career this season after joining the Wolves on a three-year marquee contract from St George Illawarra Dragons.
Widdop, who has earned 31 caps for Great Britain and England, wants to build up a good combination with international team-mate Austin in the halves and be successful with Warrington this year.
He said: “I’ve played against Blake a number of times over in the NRL and he was a good player then, and obviously he killed it over here last year.
“He’s going to help me a lot this year. The game is a lot different over here, I’ve not been here long but he has helped me out in certain things so it’s going to be good to play alongside him. It will take time to build the combination but I’m looking forward to it.
“One of the reasons why I came to this club is to be part of something special, be successful and lift a trophy at the end of the year.
“The reason why we play the game is to lift trophies and it is certainly on the agenda for us at the end of the year.”
