Some of the contracted caterers for the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme have staged a protest at the entrance of the Delta State Government House in Asaba.
The protesters mostly women who came out in large numbers, cited non payment of monies for services rendered since October last year and an inability to access their personal bank accounts after receiving an alert on January 2nd this year.
One of the protesters identified as Debby told our reporter that the order to freeze their account may be connected to the discovery by the SSA to the Governor on Child Rights Advocacy Barr. Bridget Anyafulu that some caterers were also civil servants.
They accused her of being responsible for their plight.
Reacting to the protest, the Secretary to the Delta State Government (SSG) Chiedu Ebie who addressed them, urged them to be patient as today was the first working day of the week and that all issues will be resolved as well as periodic review of the programme to address some of the challenges they were facing.
The Commissioner for Basic Education Chief Patrick Ukah who also addressed the protesters told them to always ensure that they attempt to discuss with him or the SSG before going on the street to protest. He assured them that the SSG would help fast track their payment as he promised.
