Report has it that the 21 Obas installed In Ibadan by former Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, have surrendered their crowns to Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Olubadan of Ibadan.
According to the Nation, the Obas appeared with the Olubadan on Monday, the 3rd of September, as part of his entourage to a South west security summit at the University of Ibadan.
Recall that the Obas in time past boycotted the Olubadan’s palace after they were crowned by the former governor in 2017.
Listed in the entourage: “the Otun Olubadan, High Chief Lekan Balogun; Asipa Olubadab, High Chief Eddy Oyewole; Balogun Olubadan, High Chief Owolabi Olakulehin; the Asipa Balogun, High Chief Lateef Gbadamosi Adebimpe; the Ekarun Olubadan, High Chief Amidu Ajibade and the Ekarun Balogun High Chief Adegbola.”
Also present at the meeting are traditional rulers like the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; Olugbo of Ugbo land, Oba Frederick Akinruntan; Oba of Lagos, Oba Rowland Akiu.
Reacting to the new development, Governor Seyi Makinde commended the reconciliatory gesture by the 21 Obas and the Olubadan.
He said: “In the entourage of the Olubadan, I can see the high chiefs. ” I think it is a positive development in Oyo State. We are talking about security here; and I think it is part of what will help overall security of the society.”
