Esan Leaders, Aspirants Join Forces

Prior to the 2024 gubernatorial election in Edo State, the Esan Leaders of Thought and the Esan Okpa Initiative (EOI), along with the governorship contenders of the political parties, have agreed to collaborate and ensure a peaceful and harmonious election.

This agreement was reached during a joint meeting between the Esan traditional rulers, Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Okpolopkolo, Oba Ewuare II, and the traditional leaders of Edo North.

In a statement issued by the president of EOI, Matthew Egbadon, and the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Tony Iyare, it was announced that the joint meeting also received a report on the consultations that have taken place among the leadership of EOI and various political and opinion leaders in Edo State.

After extensive deliberation, the leaders of thought stressed the importance of all gubernatorial contenders committing to peaceful conduct and working towards the progress of all the people of Edo State.

They emphasized that it is crucial for Esan people to make a strong showing in the upcoming election and urged the gubernatorial aspirants from Esan extraction to prioritize unity of purpose and ensure their actions are free from hostility, slander, and animosity.

The leaders also made it clear that the greater good of Edo State should guide their actions in all circumstances.

Subsequently, the joint meeting called on the gubernatorial contenders to engage with one another and agree on a shorter list of candidates to seek the nomination of their respective political parties. They were further advised to align themselves with the principles of moral uprightness, integrity, and a strong passion for the socio-political and economic development of Edo State.

The aspirants were urged to seek viable political platforms for the upcoming gubernatorial race.

According to the statement, the joint meeting will reconvene to review and consider the consensus list prepared by the gubernatorial contenders themselves within their respective political parties. They will then communicate with the Esan stakeholders in order to mobilize necessary support and garner the participation of the majority of Edo people, while upholding the values of fairness, justice, equity, and brotherhood.
