Nigerians rally behind Daniel Regha as Toyin Abraham vows to meet him for criticizing her film

The Nigerian people have come out in support of the renowned social media critic Daniel Regha as Toyin Abraham declares her intention to meet him after he criticized her latest project, Ijakumo.

It should be recalled that Daniel Regha expressed his perspective on Toyin Abraham’s Ijakumo via a tweet. The controversial influencer pointed out that the movie was highly praised but lacked a compelling storyline and had subpar film techniques.

“While I understand the importance of supporting our local film industry, we should also normalise providing honest movie reviews to prevent people from wasting their time. Ijakumo is an overrated film; I watched it and I don’t understand the hype. Aside from the poor storyline, the film techniques are atrocious. No offense intended.”

During the weekend, Toyin Abraham and Daniel Regha were both invited to the Trendupp Awards. The award-winning filmmaker has expressed her desire to meet him in order to receive constructive feedback on how she can enhance her filmmaking skills.

“My dear @DanielRegha, I hope to have a face-to-face meeting with you today at the Trendupp Awards, where you can kindly provide me with insights on areas I need to improve in my filmmaking 🙏🙏 I read your tweet regarding IJAKUMO and I would appreciate the opportunity to hear from you on what I can work on. I also look forward to seeing other talented influencers there today.”

Toyin Abraham’s tweet did not sit well with many individuals who voiced their opinions about the film not living up to the hype.

One individual named Soyofound commented, “Is it mandatory? Seriously, it’s not just Daniel who said the movie wasn’t good. Madam, just accept the criticism gracefully. I loved ‘Elevator Baby’ and all the other films you’ve produced and directed, but Ijakumo, or whatever it’s called, just doesn’t cut it. Nigerians, let’s speak the truth in this comment section for once: What’s with someone saying the movie was amazing? Did that movie make any sense to you?”
