Tinubu Sets Out For Guinea-Bissau To Attend ECOWAS Summit


On Saturday, July 8, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart from Abuja to travel to Guinea-Bissau in order to participate in the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The summit will be held in Bissau, the capital of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau.

As stated by Presidential spokesperson Dele Alake, the Summit, scheduled for Sunday, July 9, will address important sub-regional matters such as the security challenges faced by member countries, as covered in the report of the 50th Ordinary Session of the Mediation and Security Council (MSC). Other topics of discussion include the financial situation of the body and the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) based on the report of the 90th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers. Additionally, there will be a report on the status of Transition in the Republics of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea.

There will also be discussions on the ECOWAS Single Currency Programme and the obstacles to the free movement of goods on the Abidjan-Lagos corridor.

Accompanying President Tinubu on this trip will be select members of the Presidential Policy Advisory Council as well as other high-ranking government officials.

At the conclusion of the meeting, President Tinubu is expected to return to the country.
