8 Detained As Youths Torch Police Vehicle In Katsina

A band of young people in Katsina State, have set ablaze a patrol car owned by the Nigeria Police Force in the state.

The incident took place at Kofar Guga within Katsina town on Tuesday morning when a team of Police from Command’s State Motor Traffic Division (MTD) apprehended some individuals for flouting traffic regulations and planned to transport them to the station, but the residents pleaded for their release, which was denied and eventually led to a brawl and the burning of a vehicle.

Meanwhile, the State Police Command reported that it apprehended eight suspects for abetting the assault on a Police patrol vehicle.

The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Sadiq Abubakar, clarified that the incident occurred when a commercial motorcycle rider fell to the ground while attempting to elude arrest by members of the Command’s State Motor Traffic Division (MTD) carrying out their legitimate duty.

“While the suspected motorcyclist was successful in escaping, his motorcycle was flattened by an oncoming truck in the process. Consequently, some unscrupulous individuals who aided his escape took advantage of the situation and attacked the Police patrol vehicle.

“Upon receiving the report, the Area Commander Metro mobilized his team and proceeded to the scene. They managed the situation and successfully apprehended eight suspects for aiding the suspect’s escape and the assault on the Police patrol vehicle. The investigation is ongoing,” he stated.
